The Federal Reserve is highly expected to cut its policy rate by 0.25% next month.

The market is currently expecting several more rate cuts to follow after that, later this year and in the first half (at least) of 2026.

If this indeed comes to pass, what will this new era of rate cuts mean for asset prices?

In a livestream this morning, precious metals expert Andy Schectman, CEO of Miles Franklin, and I discussed exactly that, as well as the unprecedented activity he’s currently seeing in the bullion market.

Adam’s Notes: Andy Schectman (recorded 8.20.25)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

  • Economic and Market Context: Andy Schectman highlights increasing economic fragility, with significant unemployment revisions and a disconnect between soaring equity markets and Main Street struggles, fueling expectations of Federal Reserve rate cuts starting potentially next month.

  • Precious Metals Surge: Unprecedented demand for physical gold and silver, with record COMEX deliveries (100% of August contracts) and withdrawals, suggests sophisticated investors, possibly including the Treasury or Fed, are accumulating metals to hedge systemic risks.

  • Bullish Outlook for Gold and Silver: Rate cuts, dollar devaluation, and a potential silver short squeeze due to massive short positions by Western banks drive Schectman’s bullish stance, with silver offering asymmetrical upside due to supply constraints.

  • Global Monetary Shifts: The West’s loss of leverage, BRICS’ new exchanges, and China’s gold-backed yuan signal
